The film, ten seconds

A red bus leaves Paris, crosses the Americas and comes back to where it started: the journey is a loop, with passengers boarding and getting off under the Arc de Triomphe. Everything is made by collage, frame by frame, from old black-and-white engravings in which only the bus and a few characters are in colour.

Along the way the bus passes a Native American man frozen like a witness of a vanished past; a plane that crashes and releases a cloud of butterflies — beauty rising out of tragedy; the Andes and their Montagna Tortuga; the wetlands of the Amazon and the Pan-Pan rabbits; then New York: Batman’s bat, a lady in a yellow dress, a giant crab devouring a skyscraper and, at the end, the workers sitting on their beam at the top of a building.

A workshop project made by three: writing the journey, building the sets and characters, then animating frame by frame. Forty-seven shots for ten seconds of film — and closing credits thanking the viewer for trusting us to show them the strange earthly world.
